Reverberations - New work at UNDERSTORY

Group Exhibition Opens August 15, 2024

Cleveland, Ohio, August 5, 2024 – UNDERSTORY is thrilled to announce the opening of "Reverberations," a group exhibition showcasing new work by nine contemporary American artists. The exhibition opens to the public on August 15, 2024, with a preview reception from 5 - 7 p.m. Additionally, the public is invited to join us for the THIRD FRIDAY Art Walk reception on August 16, 2024, from 5 - 9 p.m. Both events are free and open to all.

"Reverberations" features the works of Shannon Cleere, Naomi Even-Aberle, Sarah E. Johnson-Brown, Alyssa Karis, Jessie Keating, Susan Snipes, Maha Taitano, Adria Zal, and Jamie Zimchek. These artists explore the echoes of significant moments, illustrating how they influence personal, familial, and societal experiences through visual imagery, story, and sound.

  • Shannon Cleere: A multidisciplinary visual artist from Seattle, Washington, Cleere’s work addresses power, identity, and sexuality, challenging societal norms and injustices.   • Sarah E. Johnson-Brown: A New York-based artist with a background in sculpture and photography, Johnson-Brown uses storytelling to provoke conversations on societal expectations, systemic inequalities, and power dynamics.   • Alyssa Karis: An artist and educator from Saratoga Springs, New York, Karis explores chronic illness and delayed diagnosis through photography and introspective texts, sharing her personal experiences with the healthcare system. Follow her on Instagram @isa.karis
  • Jessie Keating: An autistic, queer, and disabled artist based in Tacoma, Washington, Keating’s work addresses childhood trauma, anti-fat bias, domestic violence, and mental health issues.   • Maha Taitano: A sculpture and installation artist working with various materials, Taitano explores identities and the complexities of intersectional modern culture. Location & Hours: UNDERSTORY is located on the lower level of 78th Street Studios in Cleveland. We are open Fridays from 12-5 p.m., on THIRD FRIDAYS from 12-9 p.m., and by appointment.
